2007 SPRING BLACKSMITH'S ROUND-UP

HABA’s Spring Blacksmith’s Round-Up is a casual weekend of smithing where everyone is demonstrating as well as visiting, watching, buying and selling to each other and the public. This year's edition included an awesome display of Bluebonnets on the gently rolling pastures of the neighborhood.

Our HABA Round-Up on April 6 and 7 (we left early to be home for Easter Sunday) was like a bowl of stew in some of the harshest late winter weather we could imagine. Tee Hines brought his forge and made forks & spoons & animal heads. Richard Boswell made hooks and what ever else anyone talked him into such as spike knives. Fred Titera brought his forge and worked on banner poles and helped all who hinted an interest.

Many HABA Mebers attended including A.J. Garrett who brought his new sleek anvil creation and a portable hammer rack (that saves a lot of bending over when the ground is all you got), and Rico Ramiriez who brought his custom blown glass collection. Dan Halpin brought his family and helped out a lot. Big Jim Wheeler was with us, Kent Fowler brought his big camper, and three Members came up from Corpus Christi !!! James Porter came by several times since this is now in his backyard, and HABA Advisory Board Member Gary Evensen came over from Austin to become the Last Smith Standing for the day! Considering the ambient weather for the weekend, all of the attendees deserve an ovation and another thank you for their effort to be there.

The Round-Up gives Blacksmiths across Texas, Louisiana and all points from there an opportunity to gather for the day, work and show their wares during the Antique Show Weekend of Round Top at Oldenburg, TX. Five acres of land is available to blacksmiths, thanks to Kennie & Susan Hall, during the famous Round Top Antique Show. The Round Top, TX antique show expanded over the years to include the neighboring towns of Warrenton, Shelby, Oldenburg and a few other places in between. The show occurs in April and October each year.
