Mark Finstad's Triple Demo


Mark's Bowl HABA board member Mark Finstad was the featured demonstrator for the May meeting. Many will recall the previous demos by Mark in March 04 and Feb 05, and his recent bowls shown at our Feb 06 meeting. This was another great opportunity to learn how he designs and makes these excellent works.

HABA’s host and Mark’s helper for the demo is HABA member Troy Morgan. However, Troy is recovering from a broken leg and was able to attend with the "cage" removed and a fresh cast installed. The meeting was held at Troy's shop in Pearland, TX.

Mark had three separate demos planned: forging a cablemascus billet, demonstrating air chisel chasing and forging one of his cleverly designed bottle openers. Click each of the following photos to see a page of photos from each demo.....

Saturday, May 20 :

The schedule looks like this for Saturday morning:

  • 8:30 am : Sign in and visit
  • 9:00 am : HABA Meeting and Announcements
  • 9:15 am : Begin Demo
  • 12 pm : Break for Lunch
  • 1 pm : Continue Demo
  • 5 pm : Conclude

Directions

From Houston:

  • Go South of Houston on I-45. Exit Ellington Field/Dixie Farms Rd at Exit 30. This is south of Beltway 8.
  • Stay on feeder till the Dixie Farm Rd ramp, turn right. Continue 4.7 miles.
  • Turn left onto CR-253, then right onto CR-391. .


What to Bring

Bring safety glasses with side shields. This is a requirement!

Bring a chair to sit in.

You do not have to be a member to attend our meetings! Bring a Guest!

Bring your Membership Dues if you want to work at a forge and are not a current Member !

Minors are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
