Texas Independence Day Celebration

Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site

“It was here that on March 1, 1836, delegates elected from each municipality in Texas convened in an unfinished frame building. While the forces of General Santa Anna laid siege to the Alamo, the Convention of 1836 declared Texas' independence from Mexico, wrote a new constitution which established the Republic of Texas and organized an interim government.”

As part of the Texas Independence Day Festivities at the site of the home of the last President of Texas, HABA provided demonstrators at the barn on both Saturday and Sunday.

The blustery weekend demo at Barrington Living History Farm was staffed by Tee Hines on Saturday, and Dave Koenig joined Tee on Sunday. Fred Titera brought his forge and was there both days as well. Approximately 2000 visitors came through the farm and most of them stopped at the barn to visit with the Blacksmiths. We made trivets for the farm kithen, and made nails, leaves, hooks, and more all day long for the visitors on Saturday and Sunday. Russell and Locke Parrish, and Dan Halpin helped out and several other HABA Members stopped in to visit.

The Springtime weather was magnificent and the wind blew hard all day. As you can see in the photos, we were on the north side of the barn and there was no way to get out of the wind, and the fires blew sideways.

These pages review some our activities at the Farm in past years....

Here are a few of the photos from the weekend. A good time was had by all, and our hats are off to the staff and volunteers at Barrington Living History Farm for their hospitality and dedication to this endeavor!
