Tee Hines provided an outstanding demo of forging a wall mount Pot Rack with numerous variations of finial.
We exercised and extended some of the techniques we’ve learned through ABANA's “Controlled Hand Forging” program. ‘Forging a Shoulder’, ‘Forging a Fishtail’ and ‘Splitting’ are a few techniques used and were demoed at our
Spring Blacksmith Round Up. Tee also demoed forged hooks that can be either riveted to the rack or used as adjustable hooks.

Past President and current Board Member Tee Hines hosted a demo workshop about making a pot rack with a finial of your choosing. Come and try your hand at forging a wall mount Pot Rack.
We are going to further develop some of the techniques we’ve learned through our “Controlled Hand Forging” program. ‘Forging a Shoulder’, ‘Forging a Fishtail’ and ‘Splitting’ are a few techniques we will be using.
Tee is going to forge several different finials which can be used as the ends of your Pot Rack.

We will also be forging hooks that can be either riveted to the rack or you can design a rack with adjustable hooks. The choice is yours.
Those of you who have seen other finials or technique used, please share it at the meeting. Feel free to demonstrate the technique if you would like.
Material:
HABA will have available or you can bring your own:
- 24” of ¼” x 1” flat bar.
- ¼” round or square stock for hooks.
- Rivet material
- Forge, coal or propane
- Fuel for the forge
- Anvil
- Vise if you have them.
- Your favorite forging hammers
- Tongs to handle ¾”-1” flat stock & ¼” bar stock
- A straight chisel and a arched chisel
- Hot cut
PLEASE NOTE: As is the custom at most workshops, sharing tools is common. Please remember to do a couple of things if you borrow a tool. One, remember from whom you borrowed a tool and make sure you return it by telling that person you are returning it. Two, make sure you look over your tools before you depart to make sure you have only what you came with...nothing missing and nothing extra. It takes more effort to return or find a tool than to double check before leaving the meeting!When & Where :

From Houston:
Take Hwy 290 west passed Barker Cypress to Mueschke Road. Turn right. Go to FM 2920. Turn left. Go about 2 miles to the stop light at Roberts Cemetery Road. Turn right. Go about 1 ½ miles to Glenmont Estates. There is a redwood subdivision monument on the corner. Turn right. Go to the stop sign and turn left. You’re still on Glenmont Estates. 1st street to the left is Ann Circle. Turn left. This is a blind intersection BE CAREFUL when you turn! 1st house on the left.
Or if you are Coming from Tomball:
Take FM 2920 from Tomball (west) to Roberts Cemetery Road. Turn right and follow instructions above.
What to Bring
Bring safety glasses with side shields. This is a requirement!
Bring your coal forges and tools. A number of forges will be available. Gas is ok but the forge may be limited for bowl sizes.
Plan to bring a lunch or eat at a local restaurant.
Bring a chair to sit in.
You do not have to be a member to attend our meetings! Bring a Guest!
Bring your Membership Dues if you want to work at a forge and are not a current Member !
Minors are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
