ASM Joins HABA On Saturday June 7, 2003 HABA hosted the local ASM (Materials Society) for a special event which produced 16 new members for HABA. Lee Oates of Bearclaw Knives directed the participants in making letter openers using a pattern welded damascus from Thunderbolt Forge. HABA provided the forge and anvils and personal instructors. The group of metallurgists had a ball with hammer in hand and hot metal in the forge, and anvil at wait. Richard Wilson, local ASM Chair, attended our Knife Making Workshop last January and wanted to share the experience with his fellow metallurgists. This was another event in HABA's mission "To Preserve and Promote the Art and Craft of Blacksmithing" and we believe both groups will benefit from the encounter. The event was at HABA member Robert Killbuck's shop in Magnolia where he provided barbque cooked in his special made pit. Eight HABA members brought their forges and anvils to share with the new HABA members. Thanks go to all for a great workshop! Here are some photos from the event.
